Time Limits for Completing Studies

Understanding the time limits for completing your degree is crucial in planning your academic journey. Kuwait University outlines clear timeframes for Master’s, Ph.D., and Graduate Diploma programs, accommodating both full-time and part-time students.

Master’s Degree Program
  • Minimum Completion: 12 months.

  • Maximum for Full-Time: 2 years, extendable by up to 2 additional years.

  • Maximum for Part-Time: 3 years, extendable by up to 2 additional years.

  • Credit Transfer Adjustments: One semester deducted for every six (6) approved transfer credits.

Ph.D. Program
  • Minimum Completion: 2 years, excluding study interruptions.

  • Maximum for Full-Time: 4 years, extendable by up to 2 additional years.

  • Maximum for Part-Time: 5 years, extendable by up to 2 additional years.

  • External Course Adjustments: One semester deducted for every six (6) approved transfer credits.

Graduate Diploma Program
  • Credit Requirement: Minimum of twenty-one (21) course credits.

  • GPA Requirement: Minimum overall average of 2.67.

  • Minimum Completion: 1 academic year.

  • Maximum for Full-Time: 2 years, extendable by 1 semester.

  • Maximum for Part-Time: 3 years, extendable by 1 semester.

  • Credit Transfer Adjustments: One semester deducted for every six (6) approved transfer credits.

General Provisions
  • Extension Approvals: Extensions are subject to approval from the College of Graduate Studies and are granted to accommodate unforeseen circumstances.
