Formatting Guidelines

Formatting Guidelines for an Article-Based Thesis

Adhering to specific formatting guidelines is crucial for the preparation of an Article-Based Thesis at Kuwait University. These guidelines ensure a consistent and professional presentation of your research work. Below are the essential formatting standards that students must follow:

General Format

  • Font and Size: For a Thesis written in English, use the font Times New Roman, size 12 for the text, and a smaller size for footnotes and captions. For a Thesis in Arabic, use the font Simplified Arabic and size 14 font for the text.

  • Margins: Set margins to at least 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides to ensure clarity and readability.

  • Line Spacing: Use 1.5 spacing for the main text and single spacing for footnotes, references, and extended quotations.

  • Pagination: Number pages consecutively throughout the document. Preliminary pages should be numbered in Roman Numerals while the rest of the document should use Arabic numerals placed at the bottom center of the page.

Manuscript Integration

  • Uniformity: Despite the manuscripts being separate entities, ensure uniform formatting throughout the thesis. This includes consistent use of font, spacing, and heading styles..

  • Citations and References: Each article chapter will have its own reference list included in the chapter exactly as it is presented in the published article. For the final References section, follow a consistent citation style approved by your program (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago). Ensure all references in the Introduction, Discussion, and Conclusion chapters are formatted according to this style.

Figures and Tables

  • Placement: Place figures and tables as close as possible to their first mention in the text. Ensure each has the same descriptive title and a legend as in the paper.

  • Quality: Ensure that all figures and tables are of high quality, legible, and formatted consistently throughout the thesis.
