AC3: Changing Supervision or Research Direction

Introduction

The AC3 form facilitates changes in your supervisory team or research course option during your graduate studies. Recognizing that research paths and team dynamics can evolve over time, this form provides a structured way to manage these changes, ensuring your research progress remains on track.

Eligibility and Timing

  • Available After Initial Approval: You can submit an AC3 form anytime after your AC1 has been approved, should you need to make adjustments to your supervision team or research course.

  • Prior Discussions: It’s recommended to have thorough discussions about your intended changes with your current supervisor, any prospective new supervisor or co-supervisor, and your Program Director before submitting this form.

Process Overview

  1. Accessing the Form: Log into the Graduate Services Portal and locate the AC3 form. Be prepared to detail the changes you are requesting, including changing a supervisor, adding or changing a co-supervisor, and/or modifying your research course option.

  2. Changing Supervision: Clearly indicate whether you are requesting to change your main supervisor, add a new co-supervisor, or change an existing co-supervisor. For any addition or change, confirm the new supervisor’s or co-supervisor’s consent and availability to support your research.

  3. Adjusting Research Course Option: If changing your course track option, provide the new track details and explain how this change better aligns with your revised research goals.

  4. Review and Approval: Your submission will be evaluated by your current supervisor and Program Director in coordination with the Program Committee. The review process considers the rationale for your request and the impact on your research.

Next Step

  • Approval Notification: The decision will be communicated to you via the Graduate Services Portal. If your request is approved, administrative changes will be made to reflect your new supervision arrangement or course option in your academic record.

  • Moving Forward: With any changes in supervision, promptly meet with your new supervisor or co-supervisor to discuss the impact on your research plan. If your course option has changed, adjust your academic plan accordingly.

  • Key Considerations: Changes in supervision or course options can significantly affect your research journey. They should be considered carefully, with clear communication among all parties involved.

This updated process aims to ensure that you can navigate changes in your research journey efficiently, with minimal disruption to your progress.
